Larnaca, Cyprus. Police have launched a murder investigation after a male body believed to be that of a missing Bangladeshi student was found in the Larnaca district over the weekend. A 22-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday on the basis of a court warrant.
Discovery and arrest
Police said there were indications that personal items found at the scene belonged to the abducted student. During questioning, the arrested suspect allegedly admitted guilt in the kidnapping case as well as the murder of the abducted man.
The suspect then led investigators to a specific area in the Larnaca district, where officers found a man’s body and a knife that the suspect claimed was the murder weapon.
Examination of the scene
The area was cordoned off for further investigation, and a forensic doctor and police officers were called to the scene. During the examination, it was determined that the body had sustained injuries from a sharp object.
Police said various belongings of the victim were found at the scene and that there were indications the body belongs to the missing student.
Missing student case
The missing student was identified by police as 22-year-old Shahruar Ahmed Emon from Bangladesh. He was believed to have been abducted in Larnaca after leaving his home in Oroklini to begin work at a local factory on June 12.
Police said he later sent a message with his location to a friend and also messaged his father asking for help before communication stopped.
