Nicosia Antiracist Festival to hold two-day free event at University of Nicosia campus

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Nicosia Antiracist Festival will take place on March 27 and 28 as a free, inclusive two-day event at the University of Nicosia campus. Organisers said the festival will bring together participants from local, national and European levels.

Event aims and organisers

Organisers said the festival will create space for education, culture, dialogue and collective action to challenge race-based discrimination and exclusion. They added that racism and discrimination continue to shape everyday life across Europe and Cyprus and called for visible, collective and sustained antiracist action.

The festival is organised by Generation for Change CY and YEU Cyprus and is open to everyone, according to organisers.

Day one programme: education and dialogue

The first day, March 27, will focus on education, dialogue and learning, with workshops, film screenings and discussions on antiracist organising. Sessions will also cover youth empowerment, gender equality, LGBTQI inclusion, disability rights, migration and access to rights.

Day two programme: culture and community

On March 28, the programme will shift to culture, community and live performances with indoor and outdoor activities. Planned events include talks, additional workshops, a children’s corner, NGO kiosks, food from diverse cultures, crafts and second-hand stalls, live dance and spoken word performances, with a live music concert closing the festival.

Timing and location

The festival will run on Friday from 4pm to 8pm and on Saturday from 12pm to 8pm at the University of Nicosia campus in Nicosia.
