Nicosia, Cyprus. The Nicosia district government organisation has decided to employ individuals who successfully complete treatment at the Ayia Skepi therapeutic community to support their reintegration into society.

Decision and proposal

The organisation said the decision carries a strong social impact by providing practical support to people who have overcome substance addiction.
The initiative follows a proposal submitted by Aglandjia deputy mayor and EOA Nicosia member Andreas Constantinou, offering a “second chance” to individuals who complete their treatment programme at Ayia Skepi.

Employment at repair and reuse centre

Under the proposal, programme graduates will be employed at the organisation’s repair and reuse centre.
“Employment is a decisive step in social reintegration, while also reducing the likelihood of relapse. Through work, self-confidence is strengthened and healthy social relationships are cultivated,” the organisation said.

The repair and reuse centres form part of the European co-funded LIFE IP CYzero waste project, coordinated by the environment department of the agriculture ministry, and will operate within designated Green Point facilities.
Officials said green points are essential to Nicosia’s waste management, promoting recycling, reuse and the transition to a circular economy, while also serving as hubs for environmental awareness and community participation in sustainable practices.
