Nine arrested in nationwide Cyprus crime and traffic operation

Nicosia, Cyprus. Nine people were arrested during overnight police operations across Cyprus targeting crime and traffic offences, police said on Sunday. The arrests involved suspected offences including knife carrying, drug possession, unlawful possession of property, grievous bodily harm, illegal residence in the Republic and drink-driving.


Checks and inspections

Police stopped and checked 727 drivers and 372 passengers during the operation. Officers also inspected 102 premises, resulting in 23 reports for various offences.

Traffic violations

Traffic officers issued 323 citations for a range of violations and opened 18 cases under investigation. The recorded offences included 90 speeding violations, while 22 vehicles were impounded.

A total of 453 breathalyser tests were conducted, leading to 38 drink-driving reports. Five drivers also tested positive in preliminary roadside drug tests.
