Orange weather warning issued as temperatures expected to exceed 43C

Nicosia, Cyprus. An orange weather warning has been issued for Thursday as temperatures are forecast to reach 43C and above for a second consecutive day, the Met office said.


Peak temperatures

Met department officer Andreas Chrysanthou said Wednesday and Thursday would be the hottest days of the summer so far.

Temperatures are expected to be around five degrees above the seasonal average, with peaks forecast between 2pm and 3pm.

Warning period

The orange weather warning is in place from midday until 5pm on Wednesday and Thursday.

Chrysanthou urged the public to take measures to protect themselves from the heat.

Weekend outlook

A drop of four to five degrees is expected over the weekend, providing temporary relief from Friday onwards.

Temperatures are expected to remain at weekend levels until Monday before rising again from next Tuesday.
