Paphos and Ports Authority discuss Kato Paphos harbour upgrades

Paphos, Cyprus. Paphos municipality and the Cyprus Ports Authority met this week to discuss proposed improvements at Kato Paphos harbour, including infrastructure works, tourism development and measures to preserve the area’s historic character.

Harbour infrastructure

Among the proposals considered were an extension of the harbour entrance and an expansion of the breakwater behind the Mediaeval castle.

Authorities said the works would strengthen protection for the historic monument and harbour facilities.

Cruise vessel access

The meeting also examined the possible construction of a 40 to 50 metre pier that could allow larger cruise ships to anchor in the area.

The project was discussed as a potential contribution to tourism and the local economy.

Vessel services and environmental measures

Officials discussed creating a dedicated refuelling point for commercial and private vessels to improve safety and efficiency at the harbour.

They also considered upgrading the collection and disposal system for waste generated by vessels, with the aim of protecting the marine environment and maintaining harbour cleanliness.

Beachfront improvements

The discussions included upgrades to the beachfront, including a new shelter in front of the shops designed to match the existing architecture.

The three awnings on the pedestrian street remain licensed, and any decision to remove them would require approval from the municipal council.
