Paphos EOA says recruitment procedures complied with legislation

Paphos, Cyprus. The Paphos district government organisation (EOA) said on Monday that its recent recruitment procedures were conducted in accordance with legislation, following questions over publication delays and evaluation methods for certain posts.

The organisation said it faced significant understaffing in several departments after beginning operations, creating an urgent need to recruit personnel.

Recruitment procedures

The EOA said it used exclusively oral examinations where this was permitted by legislation.

It said the option was selected within the legal framework and was intended to speed up recruitment and meet immediate staffing needs.

“This choice was not made outside the prescribed procedures but within the framework established by law,” the organisation said.

Candidate notification

The organisation said all candidates were informed individually by letter whether they had been selected.

Where written examinations were held, results were published in the official government gazette, as required by law, it added.

Questions over results and interviews

The clarification followed questions over why results for some candidates had not been published on the Paphos EOA website, despite reports that some successful applicants had already taken up their positions.

Concerns were also raised about the selection method for certain mid-to-high-ranking posts on salary scales A9 and A13, with salaries ranging from €33,810 to more than €77,000, where candidates were selected solely through personal interviews.

The EOA said such procedures were applied only where allowed by law and rejected claims that recruitment processes had departed from the established framework.
