Paphos mayor case file returned to police for further investigation, Law Office sources say

Paphos, Cyprus. The case file concerning suspended Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos has been returned to the police from the attorney-general’s office for further investigation into an alleged rape, authorities said on Friday.

Case file returned for additional inquiries

Law Office sources told the Cyprus News Agency that the file was sent to the Law Office of the Republic on February 26 and was later returned to the police with instructions to investigate further. The sources added that no time frame could be set for the conclusion of the investigation.

Phedonos denies allegations

Phedonos has denied all allegations and has already testified as part of the police investigations.

Allegations resurfaced in February

The allegations resurfaced in February when Paphos-based land developer Theodoros Aristodemou of Aristo Developers accused Phedonos of committing the crime around ten years ago and later gave a statement to the police.

Separate claims of domestic abuse

Separate domestic abuse allegations emerged after social media personality Ioanna Photiou, known by the alias Annie Alexui, said she held documents related to admissions of Phedonos’ wife, Louiza Andreou, to Nicosia general hospital in 2017, which stated she had been “beaten” by Phedonos. Andreou has denied all accusations made against her husband.
