Paphos police investigate premeditated murder after fatal stabbing in Peyia

According to the police, they received information around 11.40pm regarding a fight between individuals in the area

Paphos, Cyprus. Police in Paphos are investigating a case of premeditated murder after a 41-year-old man died from a knife wound following an incident in the Peyia area late on Saturday night.


Incident reported late Saturday

Police said they received information at around 11.40pm about a fight between individuals in the area. Officers who went to the scene found a 30-year-old man outside a residence, and a short distance away located a parked car with damage to its front and a shattered rear window.

Injured man found during patrol

A few minutes later, during a motorised patrol, police located a vehicle carrying five people, one of whom was suffering from a knife wound. The occupants were escorted to the general hospital, where the injured man was identified as Georgi Marinov Ivanov, 41, from Bulgaria.

Victim dies after surgery

Despite undergoing surgery, Ivanov died from his injuries at around 4am. Also in the vehicle was a 28-year-old man who was taken to Paphos general hospital with friction burns and abrasions to various parts of his body and was admitted for treatment.

Police outline events and arrest suspect

Investigations found that the victim and four others had travelled from Limassol to Paphos after arranging to meet the 30-year-old suspect to try to resolve personal differences. Police said that during a heated argument, the 30-year-old allegedly stabbed the 41-year-old with a knife. The suspect was arrested on Sunday morning and has been remanded to assist with the investigation.
