Paphos reservoir levels rise above 50% after sustained rainfall, Mavrokolymbos reaches 89.8%

Mavrokolymbos Reservoir in Paphos

Paphos, Cyprus. Reservoir levels across the district have risen above 50% after four months of sustained rainfall, according to figures released by the water development department (WDD). Mavrokolymbos dam reached 89.8% capacity after standing empty in 2025 due to structural damage.

Updated figures ahead of summer

The WDD said updated figures released on Monday showed major improvements in water reserves across Paphos ahead of the summer period.

Major reservoirs record higher capacity

Asprokremmos, Cyprus’ second largest dam, reached 41.1% capacity, compared with 22.8% during the same period last year. Kannavia reservoir climbed to 51.8% from 24% a year earlier, while the Evretos reservoir in Polis rose to 49.1%, up from 23.2% last year.

Smaller reservoirs overflow after winter rainfall

Ayia Marina Chrysochous, Argaka and Pomos overflowed in March following heavy winter rainfall.

Further improvement expected

Officials said the figures are expected to improve further as rainfall continues in some areas later this week.

Mavrokolymbos recovery highlighted

Officials described the recovery of Mavrokolymbos as particularly significant after the reservoir was left empty in 2025 following damage to its infrastructure.
