Paphos, Cyprus. Four choirs and vocal ensembles will perform together at Chlorakas Ampitheatre on May 9 for a one-night event titled Paphos Sings. The programme will feature a range of music and include additional guest performances announced only to attendees.
Event overview
The concert is hosted by Paphos’ barbershop chorus for women, the Spellbound choir. Harmony, a choir from the area, will also participate, along with Vilna, a Ukrainian vocal ensemble known for traditional harmonies, and Concentric, a newly formed group in the area.
Organisers and motivation
The idea for the event came from Spellbound musical director Mark Grindall, who said group singing should be celebrated. “Singing is so good for the soul and for the body,” he said, adding that opportunities to celebrate singing “should be grabbed with both hands.”
Programme
Organisers said the evening will include music ranging from songs by Queen, Adele and Amy Winehouse to selections from shows and musicals, as well as choral and traditional repertoire.
