Paraglider photographed drifting over Limassol-Nicosia motorway near Pera Chorio exit

Pera Chorio, Cyprus. A paraglider was photographed drifting over the Limassol-Nicosia motorway on Wednesday morning near the Pera Chorio industrial area exit. Paragliders are commonly seen near the motorway in the area but are not often observed flying directly over the traffic-heavy road.

Sighting near motorway

The paraglider was photographed near the section of motorway between the Pera Chorio and Tseri exits, where paragliding is sometimes visible at certain times of day in adjacent areas.

Rules and oversight in Cyprus

Paragliding in Cyprus falls under the jurisdiction of the Civil Aviation Department, and pilots are required to follow general aviation rules and airspace restrictions. Local clubs and associations issue guidelines, and pilots are required to prioritise safety.

Airspace restrictions and pilot liability

Under airspace rules, paragliders are only allowed to fly during the day in clear weather conditions and must avoid controlled airspace, airports and military areas. Pilots are liable for damage to property or injury to a third party.
