Paralimni-Dherynia municipality installs kennels for stray cats at multiple locations

Paralimni, Cyprus. The Paralimni-Dherynia municipality has installed kennels for stray cats at various locations in Paralimni and Dherynia. The municipality said the move forms part of its animal-friendly policy.


Kennel locations

The municipality said the kennels were installed at the Paralimni municipal cemetery, near the Paralimni branch of the Lidl supermarket, near the King Jason hotel in Protaras, and in the Pernera area.

Municipality statement on animal welfare

“Animal welfare is an indicator of culture and social sensitivity and, with everyone’s cooperation, we can make a difference for the benefit of both animals and our community,” the municipality said.

Appeal to residents

The municipality appealed to residents to show consideration for and protect the kennels, and said they should refrain from destroying them. It also asked for assistance in keeping the areas where the kennels have been placed neat and tidy.

“The initiative is part of the municipality’s animal-friendly policy and aims to care for stray animals in a way that ensures respect for public spaces, the environment and people’s quality of life,” the municipality said.
