Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ association for nurses and midwives, Pasynm, called for targeted actions to improve staffing, working conditions, training and participation in decision making ahead of International Nurses Day on May 12.
Calls for targeted measures
Pasynm said steps were needed to improve staffing levels, working conditions, training and nurses’ participation in decision making. The association said a supportive working environment for nurses would translate into benefits for patients.
Recognition of nurses’ role
The association called on the state and society to acknowledge the role of nurses and support efforts for improvements. It said nurses are on the front line of care, acting as the link between patients, families and health professionals, and that their work is irreplaceable, particularly in times of heightened challenges and crises.
Theme highlights investment in health systems
This year’s theme is “Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” which Pasynm said was not only a moral obligation but a strategic investment for health systems.
