Nicosia, Cyprus. Police arrested one person on suspicion of stabbing during nationwide overnight operations aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order, authorities said on Wednesday.
Checks and charges
Officers stopped and checked 491 drivers and 212 passengers and inspected 67 premises. The operations resulted in 18 charges.
Traffic enforcement
Traffic officers issued 291 charges for various offences and are investigating 13 additional traffic-related cases. Speeding accounted for 105 violations.
Alcohol, drugs and vehicle seizures
Police carried out 197 breathalyser tests, with 10 drivers found to be over the legal alcohol limit. Two motorists tested positive in preliminary roadside drug tests.
Police also seized 11 vehicles during the operations.
