Paphos, Cyprus. Police have opened an investigation into a suspected cryptocurrency scam after a 27-year-old woman filed a complaint at a police station in Paphos on Thursday. She reported losing US$12,000 after being approached by unknown individuals in a social media group chat.
Complaint filed with police
According to police, the woman had sent a message to a social media group chat seeking help with issues related to the buying and selling of cryptocurrencies. Unknown individuals then contacted her and offered to assist with her questions.
Alleged loss
During their conversation, the suspects allegedly defrauded the woman of US$12,000. She later realised she had been scammed when the money did not arrive in her bank account as initially agreed.
Investigation ongoing
The woman reported the case to the authorities immediately after discovering the alleged scam. Police said investigations are ongoing.
