Public defibrillators installed in Engomi under “Heart Safe Nicosia” campaign

Two defibrillators were installed on Stasikratous street and 28th October street in Engomi

Nicosia, Cyprus. Two public defibrillators were installed on Stasikratous street and 28th October street in Engomi on Friday as part of the “Heart Safe Nicosia” campaign. The municipality said quick access to a defibrillator is vital during sudden cardiac arrests, where every minute matters.

Campaign and locations

The installations form part of the “Heart Safe Nicosia” campaign aimed at enhancing emergency response to cardiac arrests, the municipality said.

Municipality and mayor’s comments

Nicosia mayor Charalambos Prountzos said placing defibrillators in central and high-traffic areas is an investment in protecting human life. He added that response time is critical in cardiac emergencies.

Support and wider efforts

The Rotary Club of Nicosia Lefkothea and the non-profit organisation Spiritus Invictus Foundation supported the initiative by providing the equipment and access boxes, the municipality said. It added that the project is part of wider efforts to promote public health, safety and social solidarity, and that Nicosia continues to support initiatives to make the city “safer, better prepared and more responsive to citizens’ needs”.
