Moscow, Russia. President Vladimir Putin ordered the FSB security service to step up protection of Russia’s energy and transport infrastructure, citing Ukrainian attacks that he said were conducted with the help of Western intelligence.

Order to increase security

Speaking to an audience of FSB officials on the fourth anniversary of the war, Putin said Russia’s enemies had failed to inflict a strategic defeat on the battlefield and were turning to what he described as “individual and mass terror,” including shelling cities, sabotaging infrastructure, and attempted assassinations of government and military officials.

Putin said Russia’s adversaries were seeking “any way” to defeat the country and warned they would regret pushing Moscow too far.

Putin said Ukraine has repeatedly attacked Russian oil depots, refineries and ports during the war, and said Moscow blames Ukraine for a series of assassinations of senior military figures.

In televised remarks, Putin suggested that Russian energy pipelines under the Black Sea could be targeted.

He ordered the FSB to “strengthen the anti-terrorist protection of energy and transport infrastructure and public gathering places, provide maximum coverage for critical facilities, and, if necessary, equip them with additional security measures.”
