Strasbourg, France. European Affairs Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna travelled to Strasbourg this week to represent the Council of the European Union at the European Parliament’s plenary session, with cybersecurity and preparedness for advanced artificial intelligence models among the issues on the agenda.
Plenary participation under Cyprus Presidency
Raouna attended the plenary session, which runs from May 18 to 21, in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. According to an official announcement, she represented the Council in discussions focusing, among other things, on the need to strengthen cybersecurity and improve the EU’s readiness to respond to new forms of artificial intelligence.
Governance and institutional responses
The talks also covered the theme “EU Governance under pressure – Institutional responses to global challenges,” as the bloc continues to assess how its institutions can respond more effectively to fast-moving technological and geopolitical developments.
Award ceremony and bilateral meetings
Raouna was set to attend the first award ceremony of the European Order of Merit. During her stay in Strasbourg, she was also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with European officials and political figures, including European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection Michael McGrath, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Cos, Renew Europe president Valérie Hayer, and Socialists and Democrats Group president Iratxe García Pérez.
