Road tax renewals reach 677,133 vehicles as March 8 deadline approaches

Nicosia, Cyprus. The road transport department (TOM) said 677,133 vehicles had renewed their road tax as of March 8, compared with 680,670 by the same date last year. Vehicle owners have until midnight on Wednesday to renew for 2026 without extra charge.

Renewal deadline and penalties

TOM said late renewals will incur a €10 fine plus an additional 10 per cent charge based on the current year’s registration fee. Road tax permits can be renewed for three, six, nine or 12 months.

Immobilisation and register removals

Those who renewed in 2025 but do not plan to renew for 2026 must submit a notice of vehicle immobilisation online. TOM said vehicles that are not renewed or immobilised may be removed from the TOM register if the 2025 tax remains unpaid by the deadline.

Destroyed vehicles and required documentation

Owners of destroyed vehicles must submit form TOM 98A with a Certificate of Destruction to avoid fees from the date of destruction.

Online renewals and contact details

Most renewals are completed online year-round. TOM advised owners to update their contact details to receive important information, including recalls.
