Kyiv, Ukraine. Russian missile and drone attacks killed two people and wounded 19 across Ukraine on Saturday, officials said, as Kyiv awaits additional air defence munitions.

Eleven people were wounded in Kyiv after an attack involving ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones, while strikes were also reported in Odesa and Kharkiv.

Attacks across Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said civilian infrastructure was hit before an air raid alert was issued and that rescuers were working at the site.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched six ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles and 121 drones. It said it had shot down at least two cruise missiles and 111 drones.

A later missile strike in the port city of Odesa killed two people and wounded one other person. A drone strike on a civilian enterprise in the eastern city of Kharkiv wounded seven people.

Air defence shortages

Zelenskiy said Ukrainian forces had shot down most targets but not the ballistic missiles. He called on Ukraine’s allies to quickly deliver air defence support packages agreed at the Nato summit.

Ukraine has been critically short of munitions for its Patriot air defence systems and has largely been unable to intercept ballistic missiles over the past month.

Kyiv has appealed to allies for greater supplies of the munitions and has urged Europe to work with Ukraine on an anti-ballistic air defence system.

US President Donald Trump said this week that Ukraine would be granted a licence to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. Zelenskiy said the projects should move as swiftly as possible.
