Russian warship says it fired warning shots at UK-flagged yacht in the Channel

London, United Kingdom. Russia’s defence ministry said on Tuesday that a Russian warship fired warning shots to divert a UK-flagged yacht that approached on what it described as a dangerous course in the Channel. Britain’s Ministry of Defence said it was investigating reports of an incident near British territorial waters.


Russian account

Russia’s defence ministry said the yacht changed course and moved away after the frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired warning shots. The ministry said the shots were fired after attempts to establish radio contact failed.

British response

Britain’s Ministry of Defence said it was investigating reports of an incident in the Channel, close to British territorial waters. It said no injuries were reported.
