Satiriko Theatre Festival to present seven productions in Nicosia from July 7 to 17

Alice in Football

Nicosia, Cyprus. Seven theatre productions will be presented at the new Satiriko Theatre Festival at Satiriko Theatre from July 7 to 17. The festival was created to provide space for theatre-makers and performance groups from Cyprus and abroad to present new artistic proposals and original works.

Festival opening

The festival opens on July 7 with Hear Me Raw, a satirical autobiographical comedy by Daniella Isaacs. The production explores the wellness industry and society’s obsession with the ideal healthy lifestyle through the story of a blogger and influencer whose seemingly perfect life is exposed when appearances fall away.

Programme on July 10 and July 11

On July 10, Teatro Angelico will stage the children’s performance Alice in the Land of Football at 6pm. The production uses humour and imagination to address self-esteem, acceptance, perseverance and the value of being oneself.

Later the same day at 8pm, Sessions, written by Athina Tsangaridou and Stavri Kalopetridou, will combine movement and text in a stage work focused on obsession, identity and inner fragmentation.

On July 11, Vertebra Theatre will present Untitled Electra, described as a contemporary, experimental and visually driven reimagining of Sophocles’ Electra through a female and queer perspective, in dialogue with Jean-Paul Sartre’s The Flies.

Final productions

On July 13, Paraphernalia, conceptualised by Ioanna Papamichalopoulou and Aristi Pavlou, will follow two figures trying to understand a world that has lost fixed points of reference.

The programme will continue on July 14 with Giorgos Papakonstantinou’s Flat Shoes, which presents the contradictions of life in one’s thirties through humour, music and a confessional tone.

The festival will conclude on July 17 with Diary in Progress by Eleni Anastasiou, based on Lena Kitsopoulou’s Frankenstein Diary. The performance addresses loneliness, existential anxiety and inner struggles through the stories of six women.

Venue and language

All performances will take place at Satiriko Theatre in Nicosia. Performances are scheduled for 8.30pm, except for the children’s theatre performance at 6pm. The productions will be in Greek.
