Akrotiri, Cyprus. A security threat declared at the United Kingdom’s Akrotiri air force base was reported to have passed shortly before 10.15am. Sirens sounded shortly before 10am, and local residents were advised to remain indoors.
Resident guidance during alert
Local residents were informed of a “security threat” and urged to “remain indoors and stay in place until further official notice.” They were also told to “move away from windows and take cover behind or beneath substantial, solid furniture.”
Recent incidents at the base
Multiple “security threats” have been declared at Akrotiri throughout the week following a drone strike on the base shortly after midnight on Monday. Since Monday, all declared “security threats” have concluded within minutes of their announcement.
