London, United Kingdom. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he has asked a government group to examine any security concerns raised during Peter Mandelson’s tenure as ambassador to the United States. He also said he has expanded a review into national security vetting.
Expanded security vetting review
Speaking to lawmakers on Monday, Starmer said it was “staggering” that he had not been told that Mandelson had failed his security vetting clearance, including when he ordered a review into the process. He said he had updated the terms of reference for the review to ensure it covers the means by which all decisions are made in relation to national security vetting.
Cabinet Office review of concerns
Starmer said he had separately asked the government security group in the Cabinet Office to look at any security concerns raised during Mandelson’s tenure.
