Larnaca, Cyprus. Stou Roushia, a restaurant in downtown Larnaca near Finikoudes, offers a traditional Cypriot setting and a menu featuring local dishes alongside several popular options from Greece. A shared meal there included a range of starters and grilled mains noted for balanced flavours and careful preparation.
Setting and atmosphere
The restaurant is located a short walk from Finikoudes in a part of central Larnaca that feels removed from the busier seafront area. The building appears to have been updated over time while retaining a traditional character.
Outdoor seating in the alley beside the restaurant adds to the atmosphere, with shutters, potted plants and stone walls contributing to a distinctly Cypriot setting.
Shared dishes
Instead of ordering individual main courses, the table chose several dishes to share in a meze-style approach, which also appeared popular with other diners.
The meal began with a choriatiki salad, described as featuring sweet and juicy tomatoes, and tahini with a balanced combination of garlic and olive oil. Tirokafteri followed, offering a rich but fresh flavour.
Fried celery was among the early dishes served, with a light and crisp batter that allowed the taste of the vegetable to remain clear. This emphasis on avoiding heavy oiliness continued across several of the fried items.
Starters and mains
Feta saganaki wrapped in pastry and drizzled with honey combined a crisp exterior with soft, creamy cheese inside. The pastourmas delivered strong flavour without becoming overpowering, and one shared portion was sufficient for three diners.
Keftedes were served light and well seasoned. For the main dishes, the table ordered mixed grilled chicken and lamb chops. The chicken, including the breast pieces, remained juicy and tender, while the lamb chops, though small, were cooked to stay succulent and flavourful.
Menu range
The restaurant’s menu extends beyond the dishes sampled during the visit, with a broad selection of traditional favourites available. The range of options was noted as one of the features likely to encourage a return visit.
