Cyprus authorities have agreed to significantly increase the monitoring and strengthen measures to tackle illegal employment on the island.

The Minister of Labour of Cyprus put forward an ultimatum to the companies, requesting to register all their illegal employees within next 3 months to avoid fines. For every illegal immigrant, an employer will have to pay a fine of 500 euro, and this amount will increase by 5q00 euro for each month of illegal employment.

The parliament also plans to pass the bill about creating a special divison, which will be monitoring the situation with illegal workers, as well as will carry on-site inspections at companies’ offices.
