Strovolos, Cyprus. The municipality of Strovolos on Friday warned parliamentary candidates and property owners about the illegal placement of election banners and advertising structures ahead of parliamentary elections.

Permit requirements

The municipality said candidates have placed banners on building facades, fences, poles and other locations without the required permits. It said all billboards and advertising materials within the municipality must be licensed in accordance with the law, including those placed on private buildings.

Aesthetics and safety concerns

The municipality said unauthorised installations damage the city’s aesthetics and may create road safety risks.

Removal and fines

Property owners and responsible persons were called on to remove illegal structures immediately. The municipality said it would otherwise proceed with removals and issue out-of-court fines to offenders and to property owners where such materials are displayed.
