Trump criticises NATO allies over support for U.S.-Israel war against Iran

The US president complained NATO countries did not want to join the fight against Iran, yet still complain about high oil prices

Washington, United States. President Donald Trump criticised NATO allies on Friday for not supporting the U.S.-Israel war against Iran, calling them “cowards.” He also urged allies to help secure shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump comments on NATO and the war

In a social media post, Trump said, “Without the U.S.A., NATO IS A PAPER TIGER!”

He has called on major U.S. allies and other countries, which he said were not consulted or advised on the war, to help ensure the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict has roiled global markets, killed thousands and displaced millions since U.S.-Israel strikes began on Feb. 28.

Oil prices and Strait of Hormuz

Trump said NATO countries did not want to join the fight against Iran while still complaining about high oil prices.

“Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk,” he wrote.
