Malatya, Turkey. Turkey’s Ministry of Defence announced the deployment of a NATO Patriot missile defense system in Malatya as part of enhanced air and missile defense measures amid rising regional tensions.

Deployment and readiness

The ministry said all necessary measures are being taken to protect Turkey’s borders and airspace, adding that consultations are continuing with NATO and Turkey’s allies. It said a Patriot system is in place in Malatya and is being prepared for operational readiness to contribute to the protection of Turkish airspace.

Role of Malatya and Kürecik radar base

The ministry noted that Malatya hosts the Kürecik radar base, which provides data for the alliance and helped identify two Iranian ballistic missiles heading towards Turkey.

Ministry statement

In its statement, the ministry said the Turkish Armed Forces remain committed to ensuring the security of the country and its citizens and will continue to assess regional developments in cooperation and consultation with NATO and its allies, with the stated aim of supporting regional peace and stability.
