Ankara, Turkey. A Turkish-owned ship waiting near Iran was allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz after permission was received from Tehran, Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu was reported as saying by local media. Turkey is in contact with Iranian officials regarding 14 remaining Turkish-owned vessels in the area.
Permission for one vessel
Uraloglu told reporters late on Thursday that 15 ships with Turkish owners had been in the area, and that permission was obtained from Iranian authorities for one vessel that had used an Iranian port, allowing it to pass through the strait, Haberturk reported.
Contacts over remaining ships
Uraloglu said Ankara was continuing discussions with Iranian officials about the situation of the remaining 14 Turkish-owned vessels.
Impact on shipping and energy concerns
The U.S.-Israeli war on Iran has effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz, leaving tankers and other ships stranded and raising concerns about global energy supply.
What do you think should be done to address the situation of the remaining Turkish-owned vessels near Iran?
