Beirut, Lebanon. Two Ghanaian United Nations peacekeepers were critically injured after missiles struck their battalion’s headquarters in Lebanon on Friday, Ghana’s armed forces said.

Ghana’s armed forces said a third soldier was traumatised in the attack, which also destroyed the officers’ mess facility. The statement did not identify who fired the missiles.

Ghana’s foreign ministry lodged a formal protest over the incident at UN headquarters in New York, the armed forces said.

Ghanaian soldiers are deployed to Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission. Lebanon was drawn into the broader Middle East conflict on Monday when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel, triggering a fresh Israeli offensive against the group.
