Two men remanded after Larnaca pursuit and cocaine seizure

Larnaca, Cyprus. Two 34-year-old men were remanded in custody for eight days on Saturday after a police pursuit ended with the seizure of approximately 1.57kg of cocaine.

The men were arrested after their vehicle left the road and stopped in a ditch during the pursuit.

Police pursuit

At around 11pm on Friday, a police officer on patrol in the Larnaca district noticed a vehicle being driven suspiciously and signalled for its driver to stop.

The driver instead sped away, prompting the officer to pursue the vehicle and call for backup. Members of the rapid response unit, MMAD, joined the pursuit.

Police said the driver continued to drive dangerously before losing control of the vehicle, which left the road and came to a stop in a ditch.

Arrests and court hearing

Officers found the two men inside the vehicle and conducted a search, during which they found a package containing approximately 1.57kg of cocaine.

The men were arrested and appeared before Larnaca district court on Saturday. The court ordered their remand in custody for eight days as investigations continue.
