U.S. strikes Iranian sites as Tehran responds with missile attack

Iran Missiles

Washington, United States. Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the United States carried out strikes on Iranian positions and Iran said it responded with a ballistic missile attack on a U.S. military base.

U.S. strikes

U.S. Central Command said it conducted strikes over the weekend against Iranian radar sites and drone command-and-control hubs in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. CENTCOM described the operations as “measured and deliberate” and said they were in retaliation for “aggressive Iranian actions, including the downing of a U.S. MQ-1 drone operating over international waters,” according to a statement posted on X.

Iranian response

Almost simultaneously with the U.S. announcement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it fired a ballistic missile at the American military base used to launch the raids. The IRGC did not name the base or identify the country where it is located.

Rising alert in the region

Iran said that if the U.S. continues its military campaign, “the response will be completely different.” Kuwait’s air defense systems were also placed on maximum alert early Monday morning after detected threats, according to available reports.
