UEFA members vote to boycott FIFA competitions over investor plan

Uefa - home to world champions Spain - had made its opposition clear by releasing two damning statements about the plans - and that strength of feeling has now been reaffirmed

Brussels, Belgium. UEFA member associations have unanimously voted to boycott the World Cup and other FIFA competitions in protest at FIFA’s plan to sell stakes in a subsidiary that would run the global governing body’s tournaments.

The decision was taken during a virtual meeting on Thursday, UEFA said.

Vote on FIFA plan

UEFA said the proposed subsidiary would oversee FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup.

The European governing body said its member associations backed the boycott in response to FIFA’s plan to bring external investors into the subsidiary.
