London, United Kingdom. Britain’s jobs market downturn eased slightly in June, according to a survey of recruitment companies published on Wednesday. The report showed stronger temporary hiring and rising starting salaries, although permanent placements continued to decline.

Survey findings

The monthly Report on Jobs from KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation showed that growth in temporary billings rose to a more than three-year high in June. At the same time, permanent placements contracted.

Shift in hiring trends

Lisa Fernihough, vice chair advisory at KPMG, said the story of the past few months had been the shift toward temporary work.
