Nicosia, Cyprus. United Nations envoy Maria Angela Holguin will meet President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman next Tuesday, a UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus spokesman said.

Meeting schedule and arrangements

Unficyp spokesman Aleem Siddique told the Cyprus Mail that Holguin will meet Christodoulides at 10am and Erhurman at 2pm. He said no other meetings have been scheduled so far.

Request for tripartite meeting

Christodoulides has requested another tripartite meeting with Holguin and Erhurman, similar to one held in December.

Erhurman’s expectations and position

Erhurman said he hopes Holguin’s visit will “yield concrete results aimed at creating the atmosphere for a solution” and said the Turkish Cypriot side is “ready for the meeting”. He added that, in line with a results-oriented approach, he wants technical-level work accelerated before the meeting.

Possible enlarged meeting

A fresh enlarged meeting on the Cyprus problem is expected in the weeks following Holguin’s visit, involving the island’s two sides, the three guarantor powers Greece, Turkey and the United Kingdom, and the UN.
