Sources said prisoners from different sides clashed violently for reasons that remain unknown. They used bats, knives and other assault weapons during the confrontation.
Search and lockdown
On Monday morning, a sweep of prison cells led to the discovery of a number of sharp objects, which were confiscated. All inmates in the wing were locked in their cells pending a decision by the administration on further action.
Staffing concerns
The incident has brought renewed attention to understaffing at the prison. According to sources, the two or three wardens assigned to each wing were unable to maintain order.
