Wolt delivery drivers in Cyprus return to work after week-long strike without agreement

Nicosia, Cyprus. Delivery drivers working for the Finnish company Wolt returned to work on Friday after a week-long strike over working conditions, despite no agreement being reached. Some drivers said they may take the dispute to the labour court.

Return to work without agreement

One driver told the Cyprus Mail that returning to work was driven by necessity rather than satisfaction, calling it “a survival tactic.” The driver said the group intends to wait until Monday before deciding whether to take the matter to the labour court.

Financial pressure cited by drivers

The driver said couriers resumed work to make ends meet after recent talks with Wolt and Peo failed to produce results. He cited bills and rent as key reasons for returning, saying some couriers felt compelled to accept lower rates temporarily to avoid financial hardship.

Pay and costs

Drivers said conditions remain precarious. Several drivers previously told the Cyprus Mail that a pay cut introduced around two to three months ago significantly affected their income and left many struggling to make a profit.

One driver said moving from a base of €1.10 per delivery to a scenario where a four-kilometre trip pays €2.20 reduces the rate to around €0.50 per kilometre. He said operating costs, including fuel, insurance, maintenance and scooter leasing, leave many drivers with barely any profit.
