XM Group funds fire recovery projects and mobile water tanks in Cyprus

Nicosia, Cyprus. XM Group said it allocated €5 million from the first days of the July 2025 fires to support recovery in fire-stricken communities of Limassol and fund measures to improve future wildfire response across free Cyprus.

Recovery funding and infrastructure projects

Part of the €5 million was immediately allocated to provide relief to residents who lost their homes. Four major infrastructure projects are also being funded, aimed at creating healthy employment opportunities for children and young people and attracting visitors from Cyprus and abroad.

Mobile water tanks for firefighting aircraft

XM Group is also funding the installation of 10 mobile water tanks to support the prevention of future fires throughout free Cyprus. The tanks will be used by aerial firefighting aircraft as additional water intake points, particularly in areas where there is no nearby river, sea, or dam.

Installing more water intake points reduces the time needed to refill aerial firefighting vehicles, allowing them to return more quickly to the fire front.

Coordination with the Cyprus Fire Service

The donation of the mobile water tanks was made in collaboration with the Cyprus Fire Service and is expected to speed up response times to future fires, address operational gaps and increase the effectiveness of aerial firefighting.

At a press conference in Nicosia, Cyprus Fire Service Chief Nikos Longinos said XM Group has long implemented a corporate social responsibility programme focused on humanitarian aid, research and innovation, public awareness, and the health and well-being of local communities.

Statements from the fire service chief

Longinos said the Fire Department welcomes such initiatives and the long-standing contribution of XM Group, adding that they share a common goal of protecting human life, property, the natural environment, and the safety and well-being of citizens.

He said recovery after a major natural disaster is not the sole responsibility of government agencies, but a responsibility and undertaking for society as a whole.

Longinos also emphasized the importance of fire prevention measures and said the Fire Department continues to upgrade its infrastructure, modernize its fleet and operational equipment, and provide ongoing training to its members to respond professionally to complex and demanding tasks.

He added that the 10 mobile water tanks, each with a capacity of 56,000 liters, substantially enhance firefighting capabilities and help provide more effective support to ground and air forces in managing large wildfires, and he thanked XM Group for the donation.
