Nicosia, Cyprus. Yalla Collective Space & Café in downtown Nicosia will mark its second anniversary with a community celebration and support raffle event on Saturday, February 7, starting from 4pm. The programme includes children’s activities, a DJ party later in the evening and a raffle with prizes from local businesses.
Anniversary event and programme
The Yalla team said the space has spent the past two years hosting actions, events, discussions, films and music with the aim of strengthening its community, Afoa, and social bonds. They said the work has been supported by people who have worked at the space, volunteers from the Afoa community and beyond, and community support.
According to the team, Yalla has hosted dozens of live music events, screenings, discussions and book presentations, and has built relationships they hope will last over time.
Raffle to fund infrastructure improvements
The event also aims to raise support for Yalla, with all proceeds from the raffle set to go toward improving the space’s infrastructure. The team said they identified gaps in the electricity supply (EAC load capacity) and water system (pressure system), and that upgrades require an investment of around €5,000.
They said 1,000 raffle tickets have been issued at €5 each, and around 30 prizes will be raffled during the party, offered by small local businesses, comrades and friends of Afoa and Yalla.

Raffle tickets will be available at Yalla and other friendly spaces, and there is also an option to buy tickets online by contacting the organisers through their social media channels.
