Yellow heat warning and red forest fire alert issued for Tuesday

Nicosia, Cyprus. A yellow warning for high temperatures and a red forest fire alert are in effect on Tuesday, with inland temperatures forecast to reach 41C.


Heat warning

The high-temperature warning is valid from 1pm to 4.30pm.

Tuesday is expected to be sunny and hot, with clouds developing over the mountains during the afternoon. Temperatures will reach 41C inland, 35C along the coast and 31C in the highest mountains.

Winds will be mainly southwest to northwest, gentle to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming locally fresh at 5 Beaufort. Seas will be moderate.

Fire risk

The forestry department urged the public to exercise particular caution in the countryside, warning that a spark could start a wildfire.

Members of the public are advised to call 112 for the fire brigade or 1407 for the forestry department if they see smoke or fire.

Night forecast

Tuesday night is expected to be clear, with fine mist and low clouds forming locally.

Winds will be southwest to northwest and gentle at 3 Beaufort, while seas will be slight to moderate. Temperatures will fall to 24C inland and along the coast and 21C in the highest mountains.
