Nicosia, Cyprus. The meteorological department issued a yellow warning for extreme temperatures from 2pm to 4.30pm on Friday, as inland temperatures are expected to reach 40C.
Friday forecast
Friday will be mostly clear, with temperatures reaching around 33C on the west and southwest coasts, 36C in other coastal areas and 31C in the higher mountains.
Winds will initially be variable, blowing from the southwest to northwest, and light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Night conditions
The weather will remain overwhelmingly clear overnight. Temperatures are expected to fall to around 24C inland and on the coast, and 19C in the higher mountains.
Winds will gradually turn mainly north-northwest to north-northeast and weaken to 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough.
Weekend outlook
Mainly clear weather is expected on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
