Mangas TavernFamily Taverna in Ayia Napa

Mangas is located on the main street of Ayia Napa, opposite the Sunwing hotel. This place is perfect for family holidays and children love it here. The restaurant has two playgrounds which are set up for young visitors.

The extensive menu offers traditional Cypriot cuisine as well as pasta, pizza, burgers and steaks. Free parking is available next to the tavern.

Cyprus Inform Review

This taverna is another interesting place in Ayia Napa, but unlike many others, the Mangas Tavern is open all year ‘round. It has an extensive and steady clientele, including Greek, which shows an excellent level of service.

Interior

Mangas Tavern has been operating for more than 25 years. The restaurant’s interior is decorated in traditional Greek taverna colours – white and blue, with lots of natural stone. Inside is cool in summer and warm and cosy during the rainy winter evenings.

There is a huge veranda with soft carpeting just for kids, equipped with an inflatable trampoline and a gaming complex for the older children. Tables are close by so the children can play under the parents’ supervision.

Menu

Mangas serves fish and meat, and the menu is quite diverse. Along with traditional Cypriot dips, salads and grilled dishes, the taverna offers a good selection of burgers, steaks, pizzas and pasta.

Note the meze – it’s a great way to try a variety of dishes at one time. The Meat Meze will cost you €17 per person, and the fish is €22.

For those who are not too hungry and can’t eat the full meze, a “platter” is available consisting of meat and fish, where there is an assortment of hot dishes, a side dish and a selection of sauces.

Meat plate for two (€26) includes barbequed pork, chicken, sheftalya, lamb chops, loukanika (traditional Cypriot sausage), bacon, Lountsa, halloumi, tomato, mushrooms, potatoes and sauces.

I tried the fish dish (€28), which is enough for two persons. Large king prawns are grilled and deep-fried. Deep-fried sea bass fillet is amazingly succulent due to the batter. Salmon and swordfish are cooked on the grill. All this is accompanied by large rings of squid and mussels.

For garnish, there is courgette, aubergine, tomatoes, and mushrooms on the grill, with fries and an assortment of sauces. The dish is generously seasoned with fragrant herbs.

For breakfast, I tried the salad with smoked salmon (€9.90), served in a ‘dough’ basket – an excellent combination of salad leaves, soft, unsalted goat cheese, fragrantly smoked salmon, as well as a sweet and tangy honey-mustard dressing.

Unusual and delicious

And another dish I recommend is the feta cheese in breadcrumbs (€5.50), which comprises unsalted feta, deep-fried, in thin bread with honey and balsamic vinegar. The dish is seasoned with coarse pink pepper. A great combination of tastes … I recommend it!

Choosing beverages – note the wine from the Cypriot winery Kyperounda – Petritis white and red Cabernet Sauvignon.

Conclusion

Mangas is a friendly place in Ayia Napa, where you can have lunch or dinner. The Taverna warmly welcomes each guest, especially the children.
