Strovolos raises road, refugee housing and waste planning concerns with Disy
A Disy delegation visiting Strovolos town hall heard calls for road upgrades, faster refugee estate repairs, increased funding and improved waste management planning.

Strovolos, Cyprus. Road upgrades, repairs at refugee housing estates and waste management planning were among the issues raised during a Disy delegation’s visit to Strovolos town hall on Tuesday.
Mayor Stavros Stavrinides cited greater administrative autonomy, increased state funding and adequate planning for the “Pay as you throw” waste programme as key municipal priorities.
Road infrastructure
Stavrinides said Ifigenias avenue required upgrading and called for work to begin on a road linking Archangelos and Strovolos avenues, as well as on the Alexandroupoleos street bridge.
He also called for Constantinoupoleos and Demetris Christofias avenues to be connected.
Refugee housing estates
The mayor said funding was needed for maintenance work at refugee housing estates and that existing social policy funding should be increased.
Deputy mayor Stella Sourmeli said there were delays in implementing the KtiZo programme, launched in April 2023 with a budget of €130 million to provide respectable living conditions at the estates.
Sourmeli presented a list of issues faced by property owners and proposed that Disy raise the matter in parliament.
Other concerns
Stavrinides also referred to delays by the state in leasing properties belonging to the former Strovolos cooperative bank.
Disy deputy chairman Efthymios Diplaros said solutions should be comprehensive and not approached through a political prism. He said Disy would support efforts to address issues affecting the local community.
