Where to start

Cyprus is the third-largest island in the Mediterranean and an EU member with a sunny climate almost all year round. People move here for the mild winters, safety, convenient tax system and proximity to the sea. Below are thematic guides on the key aspects of life on the island.

Cities and regions

The island is divided into districts, each with its own character: from the business seafront of Limassol to the quiet beaches of Larnaca and the mountain villages of Troodos.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa to enter Cyprus?
Cyprus is in the EU but not yet in the Schengen area. Citizens of a number of countries enjoy a simplified regime — check the current entry rules with a consulate before travelling. A residence permit is required for long stays.
What currency is used on the island?
The official currency of the Republic of Cyprus is the euro (€). Cards are accepted almost everywhere, but cash is useful in small villages and at markets.
What language is spoken in Cyprus?
The official languages are Greek and Turkish. English is widely used in everyday life, business and public institutions, so there is usually no language barrier.
Is driving on the left or on the right?
Cyprus drives on the left — a legacy of the British period. Cars are right-hand drive. International licences are accepted and the roads are in good condition.
When is the best time to visit Cyprus?
The swimming season lasts from May to November. The heat peaks in July and August. Spring (April–June) and golden autumn (September–October) are more comfortable for excursions and relocation.
