Nicosia, Cyprus. The Pancyprian Medical Association (CyMA) said on Monday that it was waiting for findings from investigations by the authorities into serious allegations against a gynaecologist. The allegations concern delays in diagnosis, surgery said to be unnecessary and the death of a patient.

Five reported legal cases

The gynaecologist reportedly faces lawsuits involving five women and is expected to attend court within the next few months.

The most serious case involves a woman aged 37 who died from cervical cancer. Her family alleges that the doctor delayed diagnosing her condition.

Family alleges delayed cancer diagnosis

The woman, who was the mother of a minor, reportedly received treatment from the gynaecologist for 14 months, between January 2023 and March 2024.

Her family said the doctor first attributed her symptoms to an infection, then to cervicitis, a condition involving inflammation of the cervix.

In May 2024, she consulted a different gynaecologist, who reportedly found a serious cervical lesion and stage-three invasive cell carcinoma.

She subsequently approached a lawyer with concerns about a delay in diagnosis and potential medical negligence. However, she died in January 2025 before she could submit a formal complaint.

Her family later brought the case to the attention of both CyMA and the police.

Another patient reports loss of an ovary

A separate case concerns a woman aged 26 who reportedly lost an ovary because of cancer. She alleges that the cancer went undetected during an earlier operation.

The woman reportedly first consulted the doctor because of pain in March 2026. An ultrasound examination identified a cyst, after which she was prescribed hormonal treatment.
