Woman shot by husband remains in critical condition, police say

Nicosia, Cyprus. A 46-year-old woman who was shot by her husband on Tuesday remains in critical condition, police said on Wednesday. The shooting took place outside a primary school while she was travelling to work.

Incident and condition

Police said the woman remains in hospital in critical condition after suffering serious injuries. Her husband, a police officer, later took his own life.

Officer’s movements

The officer was on duty with the port police and had reported for work early in the morning. He collected his service firearm and informed colleagues he would be away for a few minutes.

Investigation

The shooting occurred at around 6.35am. Investigators are examining the sequence of events that resulted in the pair meeting at the location, while individual and financial conditions are among the lines of enquiry being evaluated.
