Why you should visit Ayia Napa this summer

Many people were forced to change their habits last year.

One of the hobbies enjoyed by many internet users was slot machines and online gambling, which continue to grow in popularity around the world.

According to statistics from the online casino JackpotCity, the use of gambling websites has increased in Greece and Cyprus.

However, we all hope that this year – or, more specifically, this summer – will be different, and that we’ll be able to travel abroad again, to our favourite countries and cities. One place that’s definitely worth a visit is Ayia Napa in Cyprus.

What does the word ‘Ayia Napa’ mean?

Of course, everyone knows the name, but do you know where the town got its name from?

In the local language, Ayia Napa means ‘Sacred Forest’, and the name was given to the area after the icon of Panagia Napi, which means ‘Virgin of the Forest’.

Things to do in Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa is, of course, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Cyprus.

And what sets it apart from the rest is that there’s plenty to see and do here, whilst it’s less crowded than other areas such as Paphos and Limassol.

First and foremost, if you love the sea, don’t forget to take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Ayia Napa’s beaches.

You’ll find plenty of accessible beaches, such as Gliki Nero, Pantachou Beach, and the now-famous Konnos Beach.

Most of these beaches have sun loungers and parasols, as well as restaurants serving food and drinks.

If you’d like to find out more about the area, it’s well worth visiting one of Ayia Napa’s museums.

One of the most interesting museums (and certainly not boring) is the ‘Talassa Municipal Museum’.

As the name suggests, this museum offers the chance to see maritime artefacts and learn about the area’s maritime history.

Be sure to try the local specialities!

No trip is complete without sampling the local cuisine. If you’re visiting the region – or Cyprus in general – for the first time, you should definitely seek out some good tavernas to try the local dishes, which are renowned worldwide for their distinctive flavours.

One of the great things about Ayia Napa is that it has plenty of restaurants and tavernas to suit all tastes. So, there’s no need to spend a fortune to sample authentic Cypriot cuisine.

An evening stroll – what to have to drink?

Ayia Napa is famous for its lively nightlife, as well as its renowned beach bars.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy a drink or somewhere with loud music, Ayia Napa has it all!

Follow the tips above and enjoy your holiday in Cyprus and Ayia Napa!
