Proposed changes to improve safety on the roads

The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) is planning to implement rather significant changes in the existing legislation.

The proposed changes are as follows: all drivers over 70 years old shall be obliged to go through re-training, improve the control of the use of drugs by the drivers, as well as stricter punishments for the offending of the fellow drivers.

The Minister of Communications Mr. Marios Demetriades has stated that these issues must be resolved as soon as possible in order to improve safety on the roads. He also stated that the number of accidents remained the same as last year. The fines and imprisonments are not serving as the deterrents well enough, so stricter measures must be taken.
